According to my research, the McCormicks were Gallowglass Scots recruited to fight in Ireland. Murdoch, the 6th Maclaine of Lochbuie, returned with around 18 McCormick swordsmen from his exile in Ireland to retake Moy Castle, the ancient Lochbuie home. The McCormicks have been a sept of Maclaine of Lochbuie ever since. If anyone out there has additional information on the McCormicks, I'd love to hear from you!

A pleasure to "meet" you, Barry. I've heard in our family lore that we're related to Cyrus McCormick somewhere along the line--even had a great uncle tell me he "thought" that Cyrus had stayed with them briefly when my uncle was little. Have yet to verify a specific connection, but if you run across anything in your research indicating a relationship with the McCormicks of Colorado, I'd love to here about it.

Hi Gary,
Nice to see you are researching MacCormicks! My mom was from the Cyrus McCormick line, and as in Sioll Eachain, the family tradition is that they were part of the Maclaines of Lochbuie clan.

I'm curious about the accuracy of this research, please disregard some of the rude comments, they are views I don't share.
Your research is correct. Additional information about the MacCormicks is detailed in the book “Siol Eachainn”... including earlier members of the MacCormick family giving service to St. Columba at Iona. Subsequent to the recapture of Moy Castle a MacCormick was usually a senior lieutenant to the Lochbuie clan chief at times of conflict.
