New Tartan

I have a hobby of weaving tartans on the computer to simply produce a computer image of a particular tartan. I can assure you that this hobby is totally non-profit; and non-sharing. I have completed a large number of the tartans that exist on the registry; and I am trying to continue this hobby by weaving any new tartans that are registered. As you are aware, obtaining the threadcount details for these new tartans is no longer possible without the express permission of the tartans registrant / designer. Would it be possible for you to provide the contact details or the threadcounts for the following tartan: • Reference: 12067 • Tartan: Maclaine of Lochbuie Auld Sett.

Answer:

The “Auld” Maclaine of Lochbuie tartan was registered just this past week by the Scottish Tartans Authority. How did you get to hear about it? As it happens this “Auld tartan” goes back to the mid 18th Century and has been in the possession of a cousin for the past 250 plus years. My cousin never realised the ‘treasure’ he had stored away in an old Kist.

However, as I do not wish to distract from the existing and popular dress (red) Maclaine of Lochbuie tartan, I, together with my family and Clan officers, have decided to prohibit the reproduction of this auld tartan. Only one bolt will ultimately be weaved and that bolt will be confined to solely my family.

I am sorry I am not being cooperative, but I do not wish this tartan to become copied or made widely available. My focus is the current “red” dress Maclaine of Lochbuie tartan.
